London July 2004: Haymarket Group Limited has announced the acquisition of Environmental Data Services Limited (ENDS), an independent publisher which has served environmental professionals since 1978. ENDS has a diverse product portfolio, including monthly and daily publications, directory and market information services to meet the needs of environmental consultants and managers, policy makers, regulators, lawyers and campaigners. Based in London, it employs 35 people and has annual revenues of £2.5 million. The company was co-owned by Marek Mayer and Georgina McAughtry. The van Tulleken Company represented Environmental Data Services Limited (ENDS). Haymarket Chairman, Lord Heseltine, said the acquisition was an exceptionally valuable addition to Haymarket's portfolio. "For some time, we have been looking to find and try to acquire the highest quality publication in the field of environmental reporting. Once we had found ENDS, we knew that the search was over. Its principal publication, The ENDS Report is widely regarded as 'the bible' of its sector. Over more than a quarter of a century, ENDS has established itself as the most respected and reliable source of environmental information for professionals across all disciplines, so I am delighted to bring it into our portfolio of business and professional publications. The environmental challenge facing governments, business and society will intensify, and ENDS' ability to anticipate and explain environmental developments will become even more important. ENDS can look forward to continued growth and development within Haymarket." Marek Mayer, who continues as Editorial Director, said that the decision to sell to Haymarket was based on a shared belief in the importance of editorial quality and integrity. "In striving to make ENDS the most accurate and authoritative source of environmental information, Georgina and I have always tried to take the long-term view necessary to sustaining the integrity of its products and services. We are confident that, under Haymarket's careful stewardship, ENDS will maintain its leading position while being developed on a scale more easily undertaken by a large, independent publisher committed to ENDS' values." ENDS will be managed within the Professional Division of Haymarket Business Publications, alongside titles such as Planning and Regeneration & Renewal. Peter Goldstein has been appointed as publishing director of ENDS, reporting to Haymarket Professional managing director Stephen Farish.
